The captain and players of the Bangladesh cricket team, which defeated Pakistan in the historic Rawalpindi Test, have raised their voices in support of senior team member and all-rounder Shakib-ul-Hasan, who is on trial for murder in Dhaka.
37-year-old Shakib-ul-Hasan was a member of the assembly that was dissolved after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh and has come to visit Pakistan only with the permission of the interim government in power in Bangladesh.
During his stay in Pakistan, a murder case was registered against him in Dhaka on August 22.
Shakib-ul-Hasan has been accused of murdering garment factory worker Mohammad Rubel during anti-government protests in Bangladesh earlier this month.
Shakib Al Hasan has not yet made a statement about the case, but his team members have spoken in support of him.
After the victory against Pakistan, the captain of the team, Najamul Hasan Shanto, named this victory in the name of the hundreds of Bangladeshis who died in the movement to end the regime of Sheikh Hasina, in a message on Facebook on Monday, he said: It was said that Shakib is ‘an important asset of our country who has been shining the name of the country all over the world for 17 years.
About the case, Najamul Hasan Shanto said, ‘This kind of case against Shakibbhai is unexpected. In new Bangladesh we all want to see something new. I am hopeful that all darkness will be dispelled and new light will emerge.’
Mushfiqur Rahim, a senior member of the Bangladeshi team, also said in his message on Facebook, “I have said it many times before and I will say it again that I am proud to play with a champion like Shakib.”
“As a fellow team member and a brother, I stand by him in these difficult situations and I do not support the false accusations leveled against him because I know that he has ever indulged in such inhuman acts,” he said. Can’t be.’
It should be noted that Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Farooq Ahmed has said that the future of Shakib-ul-Hasan will be decided after the ongoing first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Talking to the media on Saturday, he said that the cricket board has not yet received the legal notice regarding the case against Shakib-ul-Hasan.
The second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will start from August 30.
It should be noted that despite the demands of Sheikh Hasina’s pro-government players to be excluded from the team, Shakib-ul-Hasan’s inclusion in the visiting cricket team of Pakistan was also severely criticized.
At that time, the former member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Rafiqul Islam, while talking to the news agency AFP, said that ‘when the students were being killed, they did not protest. Many students considered him an icon. They should come forward and explain why they remained silent at this time.’
However, young student leader Asif Mehmood, who was appointed as Sports Minister in the interim government, said that the selection of the team should be based on merit.
Shakib-ul-Hasan is one of the best players in the history of Bangladesh. While he has scored more than 4500 runs in 68 Test matches for his country, he is also the highest wicket-taker in Test matches for Bangladesh.
